MBI: Haj pilgrims departing early can apply for RM500 incentive upon return

SHAH ALAM May 24 – Haj pilgrims departing early to Mecca can still apply for the RM500 incentive provided by the Selangor government through its Muassasah Haj Pilgrims Incentive programme.

Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, Corporate Social Responsibility chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor clarified that the incentive is only available to the low- and middle-income (B40 and M40) groups.

“The application process began on May 19 but some pilgrims have already left. They can still apply for it when they return.

“They can contact the community service centre of their respective state constituency to facilitate the application process,” he said to SelangorKini.

Ahmad Azri also advised prospective haj pilgrims who have not applied for the cash assistance to do so at the community service centres of their respective state constituency.

He further explained that the incentives will be distributed weekly starting in early June and managed by the community service centres.

“Tabung Haji has informed us that over 5,000 pilgrims from Selangor will perform haj this time. However, we estimate that only 3,000 people are eligible to apply (for the incentive),” he said, adding that the application period is open until August 25.

In addition to the cash assistance, the pilgrims will also receive a syifa (healing) kit including medicines, disinfectant, lotion, and lip balm.

On May 17, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari announced that the state government, through MBI, has allocated RM1.65 million for the programme for the 1444H/2023 haj season.
