Nearly 3,000 dengue cases in Subang Jaya, mostly in high-rise residences

By Diana Abd Wahab

SUBANG JAYA, May 24 — Approximately 2,945 cases of dengue fever were recorded in areas under the administration of the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ), an increase of 1,292 cases compared to 1,653 cases during the same period last year.

Subang Jaya Mayor Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim said the cases occurred in 12 hotspot areas, with eight of the areas in high-rise residences.

“Fogging alone cannot resolve the issue as it only kills Aedes mosquitoes, so we hope the community can be more proactive (in curbing the spread of dengue), as good participation can make the programme a success.

“Council members are expected to discuss the matter with the housing management in-depth, so the wider community will be able to participate in the programme,” he said during MBSJ’s monthly meeting earlier today.

Mohd Fauzi advised the management and occupants of high-rise residences to keep their surrounding environment clean, spending at least 10 minutes a week searching out and destroying Aedes breeding grounds.

Residents are also advised to spray aerosols on their respective premises and use insect repellant whenever they are about to head out, especially for those living in areas where dengue is epidemic.
