KUALA SELANGOR, May 6 — Running in Baju Melayu or wearing superhero masks, these were among the unique quirks seen among runners during the Bukit Melawati Lebarun 2023, earlier today.

They are among the 1,300 participants of the event, organised by the Bukit Melawati state constituency in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Its state assemblyman Juwairiya Zulkifli said the event aims to promote Kuala Selangor’s tourist attractions, among other things.

“One of our objectives is to promote tourism in Kuala Selangor, particularly under the Bukit Melawati state constituency since we have many tourism ‘hot spots’ here.

“On the five and 10-kilometre routes, participants will pass through tourist attractions, and even have to go up to Bukit Malawati where the Kuala Selangor Nature Park and the lighthouse is located, as well as head to the flag-off site at Dataran Malawati,” she said.

Juwairiya was speaking to the press after the flag-off ceremony for Bukit Melawati Lebarun 2023 earlier today, which was officiated by Youth and Sports Deputy Minister Adam Adli Abdul Halim at Dataran Malawati.

She added the event, which also saw participants from abroad, is expected to have a positive impact on Kuala Selangor’s tourism.

“Runners from Singapore and Kenya joined in, as well as other states like Johor. Hopefully, this programme will open their eyes to Kuala Selangor and they can come as tourists in the future,” Juwairiya said.

Meanwhile, Adam Adli said the ministry has always supported such efforts, as it simultaneously encourages healthy lifestyle practices and educates participants about attractions in the local area.
