PAC chairman welcomes appointment of new members

KUALA LUMPUR, May 24 — Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin welcomed the appointment of the 12 new members of the committee for the 15th Parliament.

She said the new members, comprising professionals such as doctors, lawyers and engineers, as well as those from the media and finance, were appointed by the Parliament’s Select Committee yesterday.

They include former higher education minister Datuk Seri Noraini Ahmad, former agriculture and agro-based industry deputy minister Sim Tze Tzin, as well as former energy and natural resources deputy minister Datuk Ali Biju.

“The presence of Datuk Seri Noraini as a member of the 15th Parliamentary PAC is a history for PAC itself, as she was PAC chairman from April 2019 to March 2020,” said Mas Ermieyati in a statement today.

She said PAC plays a check and balance role, especially when it involves financial policy, procurement and governance.

Mas Ermieyati added the experience of members who have held positions in the government can make the PAC more authoritative and respected in ensuring its reports have an impact on the government.

She called for cooperation from all members to ensure PAC can play its role more effectively for the government.
