SHAH ALAM, June 27 — Selangor’s economic success in 2022 demonstrates how the state continues to prosper, grow and remain stable under the Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) administration, says Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
Citing the latest data released by the Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM), the Menteri Besar said Selangor recorded the highest contribution to the national gross domestic product (GDP) at 25.5 per cent.
“Selangor’s economic growth in 2022 was 11.9 per cent, surpassing Malaysia’s 8.7 per cent,” he said on Facebook, today.
Earlier, DOSM in its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by state for the year 2022 report released today unveiled that Malaysia remains on a robust economic trajectory with all states recording positive growth rates in 2022 compared to 2021.
It stated that apart from Selangor, other states which outperformed the national growth rate in 2022 include Penang (13.1 per cent), Pahang (10.8 per cent) and Kuala Lumpur (9.2 per cent).
According to DOSM, the key economic driver for Selangor, Pahang and Kuala Lumpur was the services sector, which experienced rapid growth in the tourism-related subsector, including wholesale and retail trade, food and beverage and accommodation.
As for Penang, its growth was driven by the manufacturing sector.
The department said the country’s positive growth was recorded despite global economic uncertainties, geopolitical conflicts and disruptions in food supply chains.
It also said the reopening of the country’s international borders on April 1, 2022, had accelerated the recovery in all economic sectors, particularly the tourism-related industry.
