Motorcyclist killed, three hurt due to falling tree

GEORGE TOWN, June 10 — A motorcyclist was killed while three other victims were injured in an accident involving two cars and three motorcycles caused by a falling tree on the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway, early this morning.

Northeast district police chief ACP Soffian Santong said police received a call at 1.30am informing them a falling tree had hit several vehicles and also caused an accident.

He said that as a result of the incident, a motorcyclist, Mohd Farid Amirol Shah, 18, died at the scene due to severe head injuries while three other victims suffered minor injuries.

“A total of 10 victims were involved in the accident, but six of them escaped with no injuries. The deceased and three injured victims were sent to Penang Hospital,” Soffian said in a statement.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact the investigating officer Insp Mohd Shahrul Hanaffi at 016-6658704.

Meanwhile, Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief A’azelan Hassan said 18 firefighters were rushed to the location to carry out rescue work and to ease traffic.
