SEPANG, Sept 28 — The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) collected approximately 782 cigarette butts and disposed of nearly 500kg of various types of waste during the World Cleanup Day (WCD) programme on September 17.

Held at Pantai Bagan Lalang in Sungai Pelek, the programme also saw SWCorp participate. It was attended by Puspanita personnel, Bank Islam Berhad, the National Solid Waste Management Department, Combi, KRT, Banting Polytechnic, and members of the public.

Council President Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain said the programme aims to address the issue of solid waste, including marine debris, while cleaning activities were concurrently carried out.

“After the cleaning activity, participants conducted a waste audit to determine the weight of each type of waste collected, and this information was reported to WCD’s global level.

“The amount of waste and cigarette butts remains a burden in our society. People should remember that waste disposal expenses come from tax revenues which ought to be used for development and beautification,” he said after chairing the council’s ninth monthly meeting at its headquarters yesterday.

Meanwhile, Abd Hamid also announced that MPSepang will organise a selawat perdana programme on October 7, in conjunction with the celebration of Maulidur Rasul.

“The programme is the fifth to be organised since 2019, and this time it will be combined with the Masjid Carnival (Sepang Berselawat) at Dewan Serbaguna Masjid Raja Haji Fi Sabilillah Mosque in Cyberjaya.

“Its highlights include a talk with Ustaza Nur Hidayu, a Maulidur Rasul procession, nasyid performances by the InTeam group, qasidah, and recitations by Mahabbah D Itqan,” he said.
