SHAH ALAM, Sept 14 — Universiti Selangor (Unisel) aims to be among the top 100 higher education institutions in the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking on green campus and environmental sustainability by 2026.
Unisel vice-chancellor Prof Dato’ Mohammad Redzuan Othman believes this is achievable, looking at the marked improvement the university has achieved over the past couple of years.
He noted in 2022, the university was ranked 337, a considerable improvement to the preceding year’s 424.
“Our Bestari Jaya campus was previously a mess, akin to a desert. However, now we can be proud of it as a ‘campus in the gardes’.
“In three years, Unisel aims to be in the top 100 ranking of green campuses globally,” he said in his speech during a Yayasan Unisel dinner programme, here, last night.
Under the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, universities are graded based on their environmental commitments and initiatives, through 39 indicators in six main criteria, namely infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water, transportation and education.
Meanwhile, Redzuan said Unisel has shown marked improvements in recent years, with the universities being ranked 15 out of 306 private higher education institutions in the country.
He said this achievement is owing to the high employability rate of Unisel graduates at 95.7 per cent, or 1,779 students, last year, which was better than the national average.
