SHAH ALAM, Oct 7 — The Seri Serdang state constituency has received 54 new applications for Skim Mesra Usia Emas (SMUE) by the end of last month.
Its state assemblyman Abbas Azmi said he expects the number to increase, with eligible applicants receiving RM150 in shopping vouchers.
“Since my election to office, we received these vouchers from the state government, with 54 new applications, of which 44 have already since been claimed at the community service centre.
“The vouchers’ distribution began last month and continues until now. Recipients can redeem these vouchers at the Giant supermarket in Seri Kembangan,” he told SelangorKini yesterday.
SMUE was first introduced over a decade ago as a gesture of appreciation for senior citizens aged 60 and above in Selangor, with each member benefiting from birthday gift vouchers and funeral benefits.
Starting this year, the value of SMUE vouchers has been increased to RM150, up from RM100 previously, with the same amount provided to Skim Mesra Insan Istimewa (SMIS) participants, involving a RM37.5 million allocation.
Similarly, the household income eligibility threshold for Jom Shopping voucher recipients has also been raised from RM2,000 to RM3,000 monthly.
