GOMBAK, Nov 13 — The Selangor and Pahang Pakatan Harapan (Harapan) chapters have announced their readiness to back the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the upcoming Kemaman parliamentary by-election to bolster their chance of victory.
This was affirmed by Pahang Harapan chairman Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, who said the coalition has been coordinating with BN’s machinery in the state to ensure effective support during the campaigning period.
“We are committed to offering our support, particularly in the Chukai state seat. We have a history in this (Kemaman) constituency, having represented it for a term in 1999.
“Our goal is to aid in securing a win for the Unity Government,” he told reporters when visiting the Indian community in the Gombak parliament area as part of his Deepavali celebration tour, yesterday.
The Election Commission (EC) has set December 2 as polling day for the Kemaman parliamentary by-election in Terengganu, with the nomination set for November 18.
According to EC chairman Tan Sri Abdul Ghani Salleh, early voting will take place on November 28, allowing for a 14-day campaigning period.
The by-election follows the Terengganu Election Court’s decision on September 26, which annulled the victory by PAS candidate Che Alias Hamid during the 15th General Election.
He won the seat with a slim majority of 2,163 votes in a three-cornered fight.
