Anwar buoyant over Selangor’s hardcore poverty eradication efforts

KLANG, Jan 20 —  Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is confident that Selangor will successfully address extreme poverty issues in the state once a report on the matter is finalised.

Reiterating the government’s efforts in eradicating poverty nationwide, he commended the states under the Unity Government, like Negeri Sembilan and the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory, for their noteworthy progress recently.

“I have confidence that Selangor and its state government will effectively manage and successfully address the hardcore poverty issue.

“I am similarly confident that Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, and Selangor possess the capability to effectively address and solve the issue of hardcore poverty,” Anwar said during the 2024 National Ponggal Celebration at Dataran Perbandaran Klang tonight.

Previously, after being sworn in as Prime Minister on November 24, 2022, Anwar has committed to prioritising the focus on resolving crucial issues affecting the people, including poverty, dilapidated schools, and civil servants’ salaries.

He said poverty is among the basic issues that must be resolved first, as hardcore poverty is still a problem.

Earlier in his speech, Anwar said the issues encountered by all races in Malaysia will be scrutinised equally.

“Every single pure Indian is my problem. It is not an Indian problem; it is a national problem.

“And we will do our best. In Selangor, according to (Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri) Amirudin (Shari), the state is committed to solving a lot (of hardcore poverty issues). We will wait for it (the report) within one or two weeks,” he said.
