SHAH ALAM, May 16 — The final list of Selangor’s athletes expected to participate in the 21st Malaysia Games (Sukma) in Sarawak is expected to be announced by early July.
Selangor Sports Council (MSN) executive director Mohamad Nizam Marjugi said thorough preparations to face the games, scheduled from August 17 to August 24, are underway, including monitoring athletes’ performances.
“Each of our athletes has their own scorecards to monitor their performance and achievements, covering various aspects including fitness, skills, and mental strength.
“Each sports coach will determine the athletes eligible for Sukma based on their performances, and the shortlist (names) is expected to be decided in early July,” he told SelangorKini.
Nizam added that the Selangor contingent is making thorough preparations, with intensive training being conducted to prepare their respective teams.
“Focus will also be on several events, including athletics, swimming, archery, and shooting, with comprehensive preparation including physical, fitness, mental, and psychological aspects.
“We want to ensure that we have at least one athlete (especially for focus sports) who can perform excellently to win medals,” he said.
During the State Legislative Assembly session last month, state executive councillor for sports Najwan Halimi said the Selangor contingent will field approximately 1,138 athletes participating in 37 sports events at the 21st Sukma.
The contingent is optimistic about securing one of the top three position in the biennial event
