SHAH ALAM, June 7 — The Muslim community must protect and preserve the spirit of unity, harmony and stability to ensure Malaysia remains strong, the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) said.
The state Islamic authority said humanity comprises people of diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and faiths.
This, Jais said, is why fostering unity among different communities is crucial in building a harmonious nation.
The message, in conjunction with the state-level Unity Week, was delivered in today’s Friday sermon at mosques across Selangor. It was prepared by Jais’ Mosque Management Division.
“The Muslim community must know mankind was born from various backgrounds for the purpose of getting to know one another and complementing each other.
“The community must remain responsible in ensuring unity, harmony and stability in the nation remain strong, according to authentic Islamic principles,” it said.
Jais reiterated that while Islam remains the official religion of the federation, Malaysians of different races and beliefs are free to practise their own faith.
“This very freedom forms the national unity that remains steadfast among diverse ethnicities and creates the Malaysian identity.
“Islam, as a way of life that is all-encompassing, provides complete guidance regarding the rulings, laws and etiquette pertaining to the life of the Muslim community alongside non-Muslim communities.
“The principles outlined include tolerance, justice, welfare and compassion for both Muslim and non-Muslim citizens,” it said, adding that apart from certain aspects, it is incumbent that everyone is served and treated equally.
The message of today’s sermon aligns with the broader goals of the state-level Unity Week, which aims to promote inclusivity and understanding across various segments of society in the country.
