KUALA LANGAT, July 7 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari officiated the opening of the 820 metres-Bandar Saujana Putra flyover yesterday night.
Following the launch, the RM70 million flyover was officially opened to users starting at 12:01am.
He also performed a symbolic launch with a flag-off and distributed Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB) goodies bags to users passing through the flyover.
Also in attendance were state executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim, State Legislative Assembly Speaker Lau Weng San, Kuala Langat Municipal Council president Datuk Amirul Azizan Abd Rahim, and PNSB’s chief executive officer Raja Ahmad Shahrir Iskandar Raja Salim.
Meanwhile, Amirudin said the flyover’s opening, which connects the North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE) and the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE), is expected to reduce traffic congestion in Bandar Saujana Putra, especially during peak hours.
“The flyover’s construction addresses the concerns of 4,000 households in the surrounding area on traffic issues that have persisted for a long time.
“Congestion occurs during peak hours in the morning when users are heading to work and in the evening when they return from their offices.
“The most critical congestion is in Rimbayu, which has thousands of residential areas. Users have to pass through small junctions in the vicinity.
“Thus, this flyover will channel traffic to SKVE, ELITE, Rimbayu, and Bandar Saujana Putra to alleviate congestion,” he told the press after officiating the flyover’s opening.
The Menteri Besar added that the state government, via PNSB, also assisted in resolving the long-standing delay in the flyover’s construction with the developer.
“The delay was caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the approval process from the authorities, as it required coordination involving two highway concessions, the North-South Expressway and SKVE.
“According to the initial plan, the flyover was to be opened last May, but the Selangor State Executive Council decided in its meeting on Wednesday (July 3) to officially open it on July 7 after finalising the party responsible for maintenance,” he said.
