Dengue hotspots in Selangor rise to 67

PUTRAJAYA, July 12 — Dengue hotspots in Selangor rose to 67 from June 30 to July 6 (ME27) from 61 the previous week.

Nationwide, dengue cases climbed to 2,805 in ME27 from 2,788 in ME26, with five deaths logged, Health director-general Datuk Dr Muhammad Radzi Abu Hassan said.

He said the total number of dengue cases reported up to ME27 was 78,068, compared with 61,545 in the same period last year.

“There were 65 deaths due to dengue complications this year up to ME27, compared with 42 deaths in the same period in 2023,” he said in a statement today.

Dr Radzi said 86 hotspots were reported in ME27, from 78 the previous week.

In addition to Selangor’s 67 hotspots, Negeri Sembilan claimed six, followed by Kedah (five), Perak (three), Penang, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya (two each), and Sarawak (one).

Six chikungunya cases were recorded in ME27, bringing the cumulative total to 47 cases.

As for Zika, he said 1,388 blood samples, seven urine samples and three cerebrospinal fluid samples were screened for Zika, all of which were negative.
