State govt provides aid to 75 storm victims, families via MBI

KUALA LANGAT, July 19 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI, has provided cash donations to 75 families around Telok Panglima Garang who were affected by a storm in April.

Yayasan MBI head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said each family received RM550 in aid, comprising RM250 from MBI and RM300 from the state government, distributed via the Kuala Langat District and Land Office.

The donations are a sign of the state government’s concern for alleviating the burden on the disaster victims and enabling them to stand on their own feet again.

“MBI hopes this effort will benefit the victims and strengthen the spirit of togetherness in facing future challenges.

“We are always ready to provide immediate assistance to disaster victims, whether it be floods, storms, or fires,” he told SelangorKini during the aid handover ceremony yesterday.

Azri added that the incident on April 14 also affected several schools in the surrounding area.

“The strong storm caused significant damage, including damaging the roofs of residents’ houses and government premises,” he said.

Meanwhile, aid recipient Hafida Rahim, 54, said the incident caused structural damage to her house and electrical wiring.

The factory worker said that, due to financial constraints, she has been unable to fully repair the damages to date.

“The aid money will be used to repair the damage. My house is a traditional type, so I need the funds. Thank you, MBI and the state government, for providing assistance,” she said.

Housewife S. Ramadewi, 51, said the money would help cover the cost of buying new electrical appliances, including a washing machine.

“The storm was very strong, causing damage to the house roof and kitchen concrete and letting the pouring rain in. The washing machine, dining table; everything was damaged by the water,” she said.
