HULU LANGAT, Aug 8 — The state government will focus on nurturing talent in motorsports by providing three racing circuits in Selangor, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.
This can be achieved through development plans and organising championships by the Selangor Sports Council (MSNS), thereby providing opportunities for racers to showcase their talents.
“Selangor has three circuits, namely Litar Lumba Rakyat, the Sepang International Circuit, and the Horizon Beranang Circuit. The priority is to integrate the three circuits so that development is more orderly.
“I will discuss with MSNS to organise championships so the trained talents receive state recognition. It is also to test the racers’ abilities on a more competitive circuit,” he said.
Speaking to the press after officiating the Horizon Beranang Circuit, Amirudin added that the opening of the circuit would develop new talent in motorsports, boost the local economy, and invigorate tourism activities in the surrounding area.
Meanwhile, Horizon Beranang Circuit’s chief executive officer Mohamad Yusaini Nowawi said the circuit has been officially open to the public since last Thursday (August 1).
He said it spans 5.7 acres, with a length of one kilometre and 13 corners, equipped with various facilities to ensure the comfort of spectators and participants in any event.
“It is equipped with the Mylaps automatic timing system, PixelCom LED warning lights, and full closed-circuit camera coverage.
“Other basic facilities include parking space, a spectator platform accommodating up to 200 people, a paddock area, prayer rooms, toilets, and a café,” Yusaini said.
The Horizon Beranang Circuit was developed by Horizon Motorsport in collaboration with the state government via the Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj). Its development began in July last year and was fully completed in May this year.
“The construction received approval after several proposal presentations during MPKj investment meetings in 2022. I hope this circuit also benefits tourism.
“Last week, the 4th FIM MiniGP Malaysia Series race event was held at this circuit, attracting 1,200 visitors, including those from abroad. Homestay accommodations in Beranang and Semenyih were fully booked,” he said.
