SHAH ALAM, Aug 27 — The state government will not hesitate to take strict action against groups actively spreading deviant teachings in Selangor.
State executive councillor for Islam Dr Fahmi Ngah said he is aware of such teachings being promoted and warned that authorities are monitoring them closely.
“There are (deviant teachings), and I assure everyone that these groups are under strict surveillance by the state and the authorities.
“A warning to these groups: don’t be too happy, as you are all being monitored. We will take appropriate action, and there will be no tolerance,” he told Media Selangor in an interview.
Fahmi said an online awareness programme will also be introduced soon to help the public identify the characteristics of deviant teachings.
“We will provide guidelines on how to identify false teachings. This programme will focus on the youth,” he said, adding that the initiative will also address other issues such as marriage and divorce.
In December 2022, Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof said the organisation and the Selangor Islamic Religious Department were closely monitoring 14 deviant teachings that were identified as still active.
They include Millah Abraham@Ibrahim, Al-Arqam@Rufaqa’, Qadiani@Ahmadiah and Shia beliefs.
