SHAH ALAM, Sept 24 — The state government is looking to strengthen all empowerment programmes through the 2025 Selangor State Budget, set to be tabled in November.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said existing welfare programmes will be relooked to ensure they add value or can be reintroduced as new aid schemes.
“Since 2008, Selangor has been known as a generous state that appreciates its people. We have offerings that empower the people, not populist ones.
“Even so, we must look over them to see if they add value. Empowerment programmes must be relooked and we can introduce newer, more appropriate programmes,” he said at the 2025 Selangor State Budget dialogue session at the Setia City Convention Centre here today.
Also present at the event was State Secretary Dato’ Haris Kasim.
Amirudin added that the people’s housing programme and welfare schemes for the ageing population will be given focus.
He said the Rumah Selangorku, Rumah Idaman and Rumah Harapan programmes launched during the Covid-19 pandemic were the state government’s move to defend the sector, which was in crisis then.
“We have to see whether the housing programmes should be updated or reintroduced. I believe we have successfully balanced and readjusted property prices.
“We must also look into costs of senior citizen welfare homes, and how we want to provide better costs for senior citizens as we head towards an ageing nation in 2030,” he said.
The 2025 Selangor State Budget dialogue session, which involved over 100 stakeholders, was divided into five groups — Sustainable Selangor Revenue, AI, Resilient Selangor, People’s Welfare Empowerment and Enablement, and Housing.
