SHAH ALAM, Sept 5 — A 1.5m-long crocodile that was spotted in the Section 7 lake here has been captured by the authorities about 10.30pm last night.
This was confirmed by Shah Alam Mayor Datuk Mohd Fauzi Mohd Yatim.
“The crocodile was successfully lured into a trap installed by the Selangor Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan),” he told Media Selangor.
Selangor Perhilitan director Wan Mohd Adib Wan Mohd Yusoh said the reptile has been identified as a saltwater crocodile.
Yesterday, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) had said that the Section 7 lake will be temporarily closed daily from 8pm to 7am to allow the Selangor Perhilitan to conduct an operation to capture the crocodile.
It had said the closure will take effect until the successful capture of the reptile.
The local council had set up nets at five waterways around the lake to prevent the crocodile from escaping, while Selangor Perhilitan had installed two traps to help with the operation.
Meanwhile, state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi took to X to confirm the capture.
“Thank God, the crocodile that was spotted in the Section 7 lake in Shah Alam two days ago has been captured by Perhilitan earlier.
On Tuesday, MBSA issued a notice urging the public to be careful when around the lake, following reports of the crocodile sighting.
