Kota Kemuning rep maintaining drains to prevent flash floods

By Sofia Nasir

SHAH ALAM, Sept 27 — The Kota Kemuning state constituency is collaborating with the Department of Irrigation and Drainage, the Public Works Department, and local authorities to prevent the recurrence of floods.

Its state assemblyman S. Preakas said that among the measures implemented is the maintenance of all drainage systems, including ownerless drains, in preparation for the monsoon transition phase, which is expected to last until November.

“One of the issues in Kota Kemuning is the maintenance of drains, as we have about one kilometre of unclaimed drains that we have not been able to manage properly.

“However, the state government recently approved a RM5 million allocation to resolve the issue of unclaimed drains throughout Selangor. So, we will start addressing it with the three aforementioned agencies,” he said when contacted today.

Commenting on the flash flood incident several days ago, Preakas said the water receded completely within two hours and only affected certain areas in Jalan Kebun and Kota Kemuning.

“This time, the flood did not affect Taman Sri Muda, which shows that our planning was effective. However, there are still some areas that need attention, like residential and industrial zones along Jalan Kebun,” he said.

On Wednesday (September 25), several low-lying areas around Jalan Kebun and Kota Kemuning were hit by flash floods following nearly three hours of continuous heavy rain.

The floods submerged major roads around Jalan Kebun and Kota Kemuning, including areas near SK Padang Jawa and SK Kota Kemuning.
