SHAH ALAM, Sept 4 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has arrived in Vladivostok, Russia for a working visit to the country today, accompanying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the 9th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

“Upon arrival, the Prime Minister chaired a special ‘Pre-Council’ meeting to discuss the agenda for this working visit.

“I also received briefings and reports related to the programme’s itinerary in Russia and provided input regarding Selangor and its connectivity with direct Russian investment into Malaysia,” he said in a post on his social media channels.

The schedule over the next day and a half will include meetings and discussions with various parties and industries in Russia, particularly a special meeting between Anwar and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“Please pray that all our affairs go smoothly, InsyaAllah,” said Amirudin.

Asides from discussing bilateral relations, Anwar is also expected to reiterate Malaysia’s interest in joining the BRICS intergovernmental organisation as Russia is currently holding BRICS chairmanship.

In 2023, Russia was Malaysia’s 8th largest trading partner among European countries, with total bilateral trade increasing 15.6 per cent year-on-year to RM14.22 billion (US$3.1 billion), compared to RM12.3 billion (US$2.79 billion) recorded in 2022.
