SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — The Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) ordered Hikers Climbers, the operator of the Shah Alam Zipline at the Shah Alam lake in Section 14, to cease operations today for an equipment inspection.
MBSA’s corporate and public relations department said in a statement the flying fox facility will reopen at 9.30am tomorrow.
The closure follows an incident where two children got stuck on the zipline at 5pm on Sunday.
“To prevent any untoward incidents from recurring, MBSA has ordered the operator to temporarily cease the Shah Alam zipline,” said the statement.
It said a couple with two children were registered to ride the zipline, and the operator had followed procedure, which is to ensure the children are within the age limit and their weight does not exceed 90kg.
Children aged 12 and below must be accompanied by an adult, who must sign a liability waiver.
“After the couple and their children boarded the recreational facility and took off, the wife and children’s zipline got stuck at a distance of about 50m.
“Hikers Climbers took quick action by rescuing them in less than 15 minutes after the incident occurred, and no injuries were reported,” the statement said.
For safety, each visitor is given a briefing on equipment handling before riding the zipline.
“The ‘stopper’ is checked at least once every three months, and the equipment is sent for calibration by the equipment supplier,” said the statement.
Earlier, a two-minute video went viral, showing two children hovering about 30m in the air on the zipline after getting stuck.
