SHAH ALAM, Sept 5 — Selangor has recorded 3.6 million tourist arrivals up to June, surpassing the halfway mark of its goal to attract seven million visitors this year.
The state is confident it will achieve the target by year-end, bolstered by tourism campaigns and attractions that continue to draw domestic and international visitors.
State executive councillor for tourism Dato’ Ng Suee Lim said domestic travellers made up 70 per cent of the 3.6 million, with tourism packages to the southern and northern corridor of Selangor being the main attractions.
“Whenever people ask what our key offerings are, I always say we have the northern corridor, which covers Sabak Bernam to Kuala Selangor, and the southern corridor, which includes Sepang and Kuala Langat.
“Selangor also has many heritage sites. There are plenty of exciting ecotourism and nature destinations. Selangor truly has it all; it is like a mini Malaysia.
“The majority of our tourists are domestic travellers, but we hope to attract more international tourists in the future by doubling our efforts,” he told Media Selangor.
On Visit Selangor Year 2025, Ng said the state will install advertisements for the campaign in 15 AirAsia planes from next month.
He said the two-year advertising campaign, with a budget of RM2.6 million, is expected to attract more tourists to Selangor.
“We aim to attract at least eight million tourists next year, but if we can get 10 million, that will be an extraordinary achievement for us.”
Previously, Tourism Selangor set itself a goal of drawing eight million visitors under Visit Selangor Year 2025, with a targeted revenue of RM11.7 billion in receipts.
The campaign is projected to offer more than 60 major programmes and events, with special emphasis on key segments such as ecotourism, agro-tourism, and arts and culture.
