State vows firm, prompt action against GISBH after royal concern

By Selangor Journal Team

SHAH ALAM, Sept 21 — A special state task force led by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) is building up its case against the leadership of Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) for further action.

State executive councillor for Islam Dr Fahmi Ngah said the team is working to enhance case requirements involving the company’s activities under Sections 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, and 106 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Selangor) Enactment 1995.

This comes following concerns raised by Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj earlier today on the alleged criminal activities committed by GISBH.

“Jais will present a comprehensive report to me next week on the actions that have been and will be taken, in accordance with the Sultan’s decree,” he said in a statement today.

“I will also be briefed on Jais’ current measures to curb and take legal action regarding matters related to religious schools and tahfiz institutions under GISBH in Selangor.

“In addition, I will receive a briefing on the profiles of 30 welfare homes under GISBH in Selangor, as previously reported by Jais, including allegations regarding the appointment of mosque committee members from among GISBH members at a mosque in Rawang.”

Fahmi said prompt action against GISBH is crucial, considering the gravity of the alleged crimes involved.

Earlier, Sultan Sharafuddin ordered for the immediate closure of all unregistered charitable homes and Islamic schools under GISBH and its network, or those suspected of being involved in any criminal activities.

“Various evidence has been found pointing to suspected criminal offences that are believed to have been committed, including abuse of students, exploitation of children, forced labour and sexual crimes like sodomy, in GISBH shelter homes.

“Offences related to practices that contradict the Islamic faith were also detected and suspected to have been committed at several premises. All these criminal acts have tarnished the good name and sanctity of Islam,” he said today.

Sultan Sharafuddin said the order for closure of GISBH premises in Selangor is necessary to prevent more children from being abused and exploited.

Meanwhile, Fahmi urged those with information to report to Jais immediately and assist the authorities in their investigation.

“Stay vigilant and cautious about appearances, eloquence in preaching and the dissemination of doctrines under the guise of religion, as it has been clearly proven that some exploit this for personal and group interests.

“What we see today through media reports involves deception, oppression, abuse and behaviours that are very disgraceful and shameful.

“Please extend your trust and full support to the Federal and state authorities that are actively conducting investigations and enforcement regarding this GISBH issue to ensure the welfare of Muslims and the sanctity of Islam in the state and country.
