SHAH ALAM, Sept 10 — Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) or MBI has allocated RM1 million to help disaster victims across the state this year.
Its head Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said that RM500,000 has been spent to ease the burden of over 50,000 disaster victims.
He said the funds have been distributed through cash assistance and food baskets, focusing on key disaster locations such as Hulu Selangor, Sepang, and Tanjong Karang.“Flood victims will receive assistance ranging from RM250 to RM500, while for storm-related damages, such as houses or roofs being blown off or damaged, RM1,000 will be provided. For house fires, which have a more significant impact, RM3,000 will be offered.
“If we receive early information about the opening of temporary evacuation centres (PPS), supplies such as mineral water, mattresses, sanitary pads, diapers, and dry food will be delivered,” he told Media Selangor.
Ahmad Azri stated that disaster aid is also provided through the wakalah zakat allocation for asnaf, the poor, and the needy.
“The average cost of upgrading a house affected by a disaster is around RM20,000 to RM40,000.
“Based on the situation, if it is determined that their homes are severely damaged and uninhabitable, we will provide assistance to rebuild a new house using the wakalah zakat fund,” he added.
