KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 17 — The halal certificate is not just for the food industry, but covers various markets, including services.

Selangor Islamic Religious Department assistant halal management director Nazihan Idris said with the halal certificate, recognised by the Islamic Development Department, products are deemed safe and of quality.

She said it assures consumers, letting owners and firms bring products to the global stage.

“Halal does not just refer to food and beverages, but covers all aspects of life including services, products, medicine, and items like soap and detergent.

“With the halal certificate, consumers will be assured that products fulfil (halal) quality and cleanliness criteria. That’s why many look out for halal certification,” she said during the Selangor Halal Awareness Seminar during the Second Series of the Selangor International Business Summit, held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, yesterday.

Earlier this month, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari urged Bumiputera entrepreneurs to obtain halal certificates to widen their business networks.

He said with halal accreditation, entrepreneurs can put their products on the global stage and guarantee a rise in income.
