Malaysia Semiconductor Recruitment Day 2024 helps ensure development of local semiconductor industry

SHAH ALAM, Oct 6 — The two-day Malaysia Semiconductor Recruitment Day 2024, which closed yesterday at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre in Kuala Lumpur, helps ensure the development of the local semiconductor industry by fulfilling its workforce needs.

Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) chief executive officer Yong Kai Ping said the event connected job seekers with industry giants, including NXP, Infineon Technologies, Inari Amertron, Chipsbank, and Betterlife.

It also saw hundreds of on-the-spot job offers, with high demand for key roles in the country’s semiconductor industry, including RTL design engineer, design verification engineer, physical design engineer, and analogue circuit design engineer.

“Three distinct groups of participants stood out during the event. First, fresh graduates, particularly those with mid-level academic standings, attended in large numbers as they sought employment opportunities after extended job searches.

“Second, current professional workers, mainly from the manufacturing division, were eager to explore new roles within the semiconductor field. Lastly, there was a significant presence of international job seekers, primarily locals who had been working overseas and returned to Malaysia due to economic challenges in the western countries,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Yong also expressed Sidec’s commitment to host more such events that will continue to strengthen Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy.

“These initiatives will further enhance Malaysia’s presence as a key player in the global IC design and semiconductor sectors.

“This is just the beginning. We are creating an ecosystem that connects Malaysia’s brightest minds with global industry leaders. The impact of this event will be felt across the entire semiconductor supply chain,” he said.

The event, held with the cooperation of Malaysia Advanced Semiconductor and AI Academy, managed to gather 25 leading semiconductor companies under one roof and attracted job seekers from across Malaysia, including from the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak.
