Works Ministry orders full probe into Taman Melawati landslide

SHAH ALAM, Oct 15 — A landslide occured near a housing area in Taman Melawati, Ampang, earlier today, prompting Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi to order a full investigation into the cause of the incident.

The landslide, which occurred along Jalan E6 and Jalan G2 at around 10.15am, affected four homes and a vehicle, although no casualties or injuries were reported.

“I have been informed of the landslide in Taman Melawati and have requested a thorough report from the Public Works Department (JKR) regarding the situation,” he said in a statement today.

Nanta said an initial review by JKR found that a blocked drainage system along Jalan G2 might have triggered the landslide due to water flow disruption.

“An initial check revealed that the water flow caused by the clogged drainage system at Jalan G2, Taman Melawati, contributed to the landslide,” he said.

The JKR Slope Engineering Branch (CKC) had also issued a ‘Danger’ warning yesterday at 4.37pm, alerting the local authorities in Gombak and Hulu Langat to take precautionary measures.

This warning was further communicated to representatives of the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council.

In response to the incident, the minister has instructed the JKR CKC team to be deployed to the site to conduct a more detailed assessment.

“I urge all residents to comply with instructions from the authorities to prevent any unwanted incidents,” Nanta said.

Meanwhile, residents of 20 houses near Jalan E6 have been instructed to evacuate as a precaution following the landslide.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said his team received an emergency call about the incident at 11.42am.

“As of now, the situation is under control with no victims reported, but there is still ongoing soil movement at the site,” he said.

Mukhlis added that JBPM and the police will closely monitor the area throughout the day to ensure the residents’ safety.
