SHAH ALAM, Nov 21 — Over 150,000 primary and secondary school students statewide will benefit from the Selangor People’s Tuition Programme (PTRS) next year.

Yayasan Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) chief Ahmad Azri Zainal Nor said the free tuition initiative, with a total allocation of RM11 million, will be expanded to include primary students in 432 schools for literacy and numeracy intervention programmes.

He added that about 130,000 Form 4 and 5 students in Selangor will benefit from PTRS next year, involving a RM10 million allocation.

“Next year, there will be an additional programme at the primary school level, focusing on literacy and numeracy intervention for remedial class students. The module development was completed two weeks ago, and we expect to launch the programme in March next year.

“It will involve 22,000 to 25,000 students, with an additional RM1 million in funding, bringing the total allocation for the PTRS programme next year to RM11 million,” he said after the Madani Open Day programme at the Petaling Perdana District Education Office here today.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, when tabling the 2025 Selangor State Budget on Friday, announced an allocation of RM10 million for the PTRS programme targeting Form 4 and 5 students.

Additionally, RM1 million has been set aside for a literacy and numeracy intervention programme specifically designed for primary school students struggling with basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills.

PTRS for Form 4 and 5 students include supplementary classes in Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science, History, and Additional Mathematics, aimed at students from low-income families with average or poor academic performance.

The initiative has also contributed to the improved performance of Selangor students in the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exam.
