Exco advises strata residences to maximise empty space, build community gardens

SHAH ALAM, Nov 24 — Strata communities are encouraged to utilise empty spaces by establishing community gardens to contribute to a more sustainable green ecosystem, said the state executive councillor for housing and culture Datuk Borhan Aman Shah.

He said community gardens not only beautify the area but also contribute to the local community’s economic well-being and food security.

“So far, there are 42 community gardens across Selangor, and residents are increasingly showing commitment thanks to the assistance provided by various agencies, including the local authorities.

“This is a positive development as it not only generates local economic benefits but also strengthens bonds among residents,” he said after officiating the Selangor Strata Green Landscape Awards 2024 yesterday.

During the event, the Permai Putera Community Garden won first place in the Strata Green Landscape Awards 2024, as well as the Special Economic Empowerment Award.

Additionally, the USJ14 Community Garden received two special awards: the Special Award for Liveable Cities and the Special Green Landscape Innovation Award.

Meanwhile, the Cheerful Community Special Award was presented to the Pandan Indah Fire and Rescue Station Community Garden, and the Subang Jaya City Council received the Special Best Local Authority Award.

Simultaneously, Borhan also encouraged the local authorities to support strata communities in building community gardens as a sign of solidarity.

“Previously, it was only the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council, but now several others are excelling, such as the Subang Jaya City Council. Let them serve as examples, especially for local authorities managing strata residential areas,” he said.
