SHAH ALAM, Nov 10 — Sports institutions need more allocations under the 2025 Selangor State Budget ahead of the 22nd Malaysian Games (Sukma) in 2026.

The state is set to host the 22nd Sukma.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said the extra funding will go to contingents’ early preparations, athlete development, and boosting sports associations’ activities.

“I hope for extra funding for sports, especially in preparation for Sukma. We also want to prepare for the development of our athletes.

“We hope allocations for sports associations could also be increased to give them room to make preparations,” said Najwan at a press conference yesterday.

Najwan said the state government is committed to developing an ecosystem for e-sports, which has the potential to shine on the international stage.

He added that his office is working with the Youth and Sports Ministry to develop the sport and benefit from existing opportunities.

“The state government has never sidelined e-sports. We will discuss this with the Menteri Besar to look into what we need to support the development of e-sports.”
