SHAH ALAM, Nov 12 — Authorities in the Klang Valley have advised residents, especially those in flood-prone areas, to exercise caution as thunderstorms and heavy rain sweep through the region, causing flash floods and severe congestion in parts of the metropolitan area.
Social media has been flooded with reports from affected residents and road users, capturing scenes of rising waters and traffic disruptions.
In a post on X earlier this morning, Astro Radio Traffic warned of a one-foot-deep flash flood at KM4.9 along the Lebuhraya Damansara-Puchong (LDP), near Mutiara Damansara, causing congestion along Persiaran Surian.
National news agency Bernama also posted visuals of the flood along Persiaran Surian, where five vehicles were reportedly stranded.
“Five vehicles were trapped in flash floods along Persiaran Surian Damansara-Taman Pelangi Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, around 8.09am today.”
Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, however, said water levels have since receded, and that no victims were reported.
Mukhlis added that eight JBPM personnel, along with two fire engines from Petaling Jaya, were deployed to the flood location.
The Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) also urged road users to be vigilant as heavy congestion was observed along the LDP due to the flash floods.
“Flash floods at KM4.9-KM5.0 northbound from Bandar Utama to Penchala. Exit lanes, as well as the middle and left lanes on the main route, are blocked, leading to traffic congestion.”
Meanwhile, Astro Radio Traffic also reported severe congestion due to flash floods in several other areas.
These areas include Jalan Kuala Selangor, which reported a 1.5-hour delay from Aman Puteri towards Kepong, and a one-hour congestion from Batu Caves near Bandar Sri Damansara.
In response to the ongoing rainfall, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) took to Facebook to issue a warning, urging residents to stay vigilant and monitor water levels around their homes.
MBSA said residents may be asked to relocate to temporary relief centres if necessary, stressing the importance of following official instructions.

The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) had, earlier today, issued warnings regarding thunderstorms across various states, including Selangor.
The latest advisory, issued at 10am, forecast thunderstorms, heavy rain, and strong winds in several districts in Selangor, including Kuala Selangor, Hulu Selangor, Klang, Gombak, and Petaling, as well as Kuala Lumpur and other areas until 1pm.
A thunderstorm warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rain intensity exceeding 20mm/hour that are imminent or expected to last more than an hour.
Thunderstorm warnings are short-term and valid for no longer than six hours per issuance.
