KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 — Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said he had lost a true comrade, who was there with him in fighting for the nation, race and religion, with the passing of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin this morning.
In a post on Facebook, the former premier said he was deeply saddened by the news of Daim’s death.
“I can only pray that we will see each other again one day. Amin, Ya Rabbal Alamin,” Mahathir said.
According to his family’s statement earlier, Daim breathed his last at 8.21am today while receiving treatment at Assunta Hospital in Petaling Jaya. He was 86.
Daim, whose real name is Che Abdul Daim Zainuddin, served as finance minister from 1984 to 1991 and from 1999 to 2001.
The funeral prayer is scheduled at Masjid Wilayah Persekutuan in Jalan Duta after the Asar prayers.
