PUTRAJAYA, Nov 15 — The government, through the Transport Ministry (MOT), will host the 30th Asean Transport Ministers (ATM) Meeting and the 58th Senior Transport Officials Meeting (STOM) from Monday to November 22 in Kuala Lumpur.
In a statement today, MOT said these meetings will bring together Asean transport leaders, policymakers and industry experts to engage in high-level discussions on advancing regional and global connectivity, as well as fostering economic prosperity.
“The ATM meeting, being the highest Asean transport body, shall set policy directions in the transport sector and discuss issues of common interest. STOM, as the executive body, shall supervise, coordinate and review programmes and directions set by Asean transport ministers,” the statement said.
MOT said these meetings serve as the culmination of efforts from various working groups, namely the Asean Air Transport Working Group, Asean Land Transport Working Group, Asean Maritime Transport Working Group and Asean Transport Facilitation Working Group, which are the implementing arms in the transport sector in various areas, as specified in the Asean Transport Strategic Action Plan 2016-2025.
According to the MOT, the 2024 ATM and STOM meetings serve as critical preludes to Malaysia’s chairmanship of Asean in 2025.
“As chair, Malaysia is resolute in guiding the Asean transport sector towards enhanced connectivity, intra-trade, and investment. Malaysia is committed to ensuring inclusivity and sustainability are central in regional community-building efforts,” it said.
