GOMBAK, Nov 10 — The Jelajah Ummah programme organised by the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim) in Sungai Tua yesterday strengthened the relationship between local leaders and the community.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme also raised awareness and interest among various parties to engage in community welfare activities, making kindness a cultural practice.
He said Mapim selected Gombak as the location to distribute 200 food baskets to those in need in Sungai Tua, with distributions carried out through door-to-door visits.
“The programme also included community activities including e-sports games, oil changes, and other events organised for the day. Several government officials also attended today.
“A culture of compassion arises from a sense of love and appreciation for one another. If we foster this spirit, I am confident that Selangor and Malaysia will thrive in peace and prosperity, advancing as a model society,” Amirudin said.
He was speaking to the press after officiating Mapim’s Jelajah Peduli Ummah Sejahtera Insan Al-Falah at Dataran Sungai Tua yesterday.
Amirudin added that the state government is fostering a caring spirit through its Iltizam Selangor Penyayang (ISP) welfare programme.
“This sense of compassion fosters responsibility towards the community and society.
“For example, through ISP, the state government runs programmes to help Selangor’s children enter university, gain access to preschool education, and receive public tuition assistance,” he said
Other activities included a mobile clinic by the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Council, offering free health screenings, as well as “rewang” activities that brought the community together.
