SHAH ALAM, Nov 30 — Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated), or MBI, has been awarded the United Global Compact Network Malaysia and Brunei “Forward Faster Sustainability Award” during a ceremony in Kuala Lumpur last night.

MBI in a statement said it received the award thanks to its sustainability efforts in implementing the Sabak Bernam Development Area (Sabda) project.

“This accreditation brings focus to Sabda’s objective to empower local communities and develop a sustainable ecosystem in Sabak Bernam, in line with the First Selangor Plan.

“Sabda is an initiative that encourages economic prosperity and maintains the balance between community well-being and environmental conservation,” it said.

The award was received by MBI financial division head Zannifa Azura Ahmad at Grand Hyatt Hotel.

The statement said that in the same ceremony, MBI signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Global Compact Network Malaysia and Brunei to empower development programmes and address environmental, social and governance challenges.

It added that both parties will explore wider opportunities to support their shared commitment to sustainability in the region.

“Through this partnership, MBI is confident it will strengthen sustainability efforts, in line with Selangor’s sustainability development agenda, towards a smart, liveable and prosperous state,” it said.
