KUALA SELANGOR, Nov 8 — The construction of the water pump house at the Rantau Panjang Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Package B, under the Selangor Raw Water Security Scheme (SJAM), has been fully completed and will be operational soon.
State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said the construction of the four water pump units, costing RM21 million, aims to address the issue of WTP shutdowns due to raw water source pollution incidents in Sungai Selangor and Sungai Langat.
The project includes the supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of the pumping system, along with related works at the Rantau Panjang WTP’s intake.
“Package B involves building a pump house to directly supply raw water from the Hang Tuah 5 Pond to both the new and old intakes of the Rantau Panjang WTP.
“The pumps have a capacity of 40 million litres per day, matching the production capacity of the Rantau Panjang WTP and can sustain operations for five days,” he said during the inauguration ceremony of the pump house today.
Izham added that the raw water pumping system from Hang Tuah Pond, located one kilometre from the intake of the Rantau Panjang WTP, will be activated to channel raw water if pollution occurs in Sungai Selangor.
“When everything is operational, Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd will prepare a standard operating procedure (SOP),” he said.
Simultaneously, the construction of Package A (the Hybrid Off River Augmentation System or HORAS pumping station) in Sungai Selangor, Package C (the storage pond), and Package D (river diversion) in Sungai Semenyih has reached 94.5 per cent completion.
“The overall development cost amounts to RM320 million and is expected to be completed by the end of next month at the latest,” Izham said.
