KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 — The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) will summon two former finance ministers to conclude its proceedings on efforts to recover 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) assets and the debt financing guarantee for the company.
PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said the former ministers are Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz, who served from 2021 to 2022 and is now investment, trade and industry minister, and Lim Guan Eng, who held the post from 2018 to 2020.
She said the committee will also summon Datuk Asri Hamidon, who was Treasury secretary-general from 2020 to 2023, and representatives from Rosli Dahlan Saravana Partnership to seek explanations on recovery efforts when the firm was on the 1MDB Special Committee.
“Proceedings are expected to be held in the third week of November,” she told a press conference at Parliament today.
Mas Ermieyati said in the two-hour proceedings on Monday, the PAC heard testimonies and explanations from Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and 1MDB Asset Recovery Taskforce chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani about the government’s efforts to recover 1MDB assets and the financing of RM9.456 billion in the company’s debts.
She said yesterday’s proceedings covered the Inland Revenue Board’s (LHDN) management of accounts receivable, and the PAC heard testimonies and explanations from Johan and LHDN chief executive officer Datuk Abu Tariq Jamaluddin.
