KUALA LANGAT, Nov 11 — Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi has proposed that the construction and upgrading of the Pulau Indah Ring Road and Klang Northport roads use more durable paving materials.
He said the use of such materials will ensure the routes hold up as they are the main channels for heavy vehicles to and from Port Klang.
“So far, it is still in the planning stage… This project has been identified and mentioned at the tabling of Budget 2025, so the allocation is already there for us to start this project.
“We know the road in this port area is used by heavy vehicles, such as container lorries and trucks with heavy loads, so when we build infrastructure, we have to make sure it is the best that can accommodate that need,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after the inauguration of the Malaysia Construction Academy (ABM) Tower Crane Training Site in the Central Region here today.
On October 18, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, when tabling Budget 2025, announced RM107 million would be allocated for the construction and upgrading of the Pulau Indah Ring Road and North Klang Port route to spur the country’s logistics sector.
Regarding the ABM event, Nanta said 600 people, including those involved in the tower crane field, will be trained through the technical and vocational education and training (TVET) by year-end.
He said the programme involving a collaboration between the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) and Malaysian Resources Corporation Bhd (MRCB) could produce skilled workers in the construction industry, thus reducing dependence on foreign workers.
“This collaboration is the result of a memorandum of understanding between MRCB and BIDC that was signed over a year ago.
“MRCB’s earnestness as an industry participant in helping TVET will provide an opportunity for trainees to earn a decent income of up to more than RM5,000 as tower crane operators,” he said.
He also encouraged the private sector to come forward in synergistic cooperation with CIDB to empower TVET in the field of construction.
