Shah Alam Stadium demolition follows strict standards, drainage system unaffected

By Selangor Journal Team

SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 — The demolition process at Shah Alam Stadium is being carried out in strict adherence to safety and operational standards, ensuring that the surrounding area’s drainage system remains unaffected.

The Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA) said in a statement on social media site X  that this finding follows further assessments conducted on the ongoing demolition work.

The assessments were done amid concerns over weather conditions in the Klang Valley, after heavy downpour on Tuesday led to flash floods affecting several areas in Shah Alam.

“Our team will continue to closely monitor the situation to ensure the safety of workers and the local community,” it said yesterday.

KSSA said it has also implemented additional measures to manage the impact of bad weather, including the use of existing retention ponds to ensure a smooth drainage system at the site.

It assured that necessary actions will be taken to prevent any potential disruptions.

“Our priority remains the well-being of everyone involved and minimising any inconvenience to the surrounding area.

“Thank you for your patience and support as we work towards building a better future for Shah Alam,” it said.

The Shah Alam Stadium, first opened in July 1994 with a 80,372 seating capacity, is being demolished to make way for the development of the new KSSA, with approval having been granted by the Shah Alam City Council to the developer.

The demolition and reconstruction process of the stadium, complete with a commercial space and a parking plaza, is expected to conclude by 2026.

The second phase will begin in January 2027 and involves a covered theatre, youth and sports wing, and recreational areas.

The final phase will involve the construction of an integrated terminal and hotel, which is expected to begin in January 2028 and end in December 2029.
