Shah Alam Stadium demolition reaches 80 pct, completion by May 2025 — Exco

SHAH ALAM, Nov 9 — The demolition of the Shah Alam Stadium, which began in early July, is now 80 per cent completed and is expected to be fully finished by May next year.

State executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi said that once the demolition process is complete, construction of the Shah Alam Sports Complex (KSSA), spanning 76.08 hectares, will commence.

“The demolition is progressing very well, and once it is completed, the construction of KSSA will start with the structure of the new stadium.

“We hope all processes will proceed according to schedule. KSSA will be equipped with various modern facilities, not only for sports activities but also for public recreation,” he said.

Najwan was speaking to the press after launching the Selangor Madani Youth Tour programme in Petaling today.

KSSA’s redevelopment was undertaken after it was estimated that the state government would have to bear RM787 million in repair costs. RM56 million was spent on maintenance and repairs between 2013 and 2022.

The new development will feature various amenities for public recreation alongside commercial activities, with approximately 40 per cent of the area designated for public recreational spaces and 60 per cent for sports facilities.

These will include indoor courts, a multi-purpose hall, a hotel, a mosque, event spaces, and retail areas.

The construction considers various factors, including frequent flooding issues, and will include an international-standard stadium with a capacity of 35,000 to 45,000 spectators. It will be versatile, and capable of hosting various events, including concerts.
