KLANG, Nov 1 — Pandamaran state assemblyman Tony Leong Tuck Chee will meet with the relevant state executive councillor concerning the illegal dumpsite discovered along Jalan Arang a month ago.
He said the meeting will take place soon, as the three-acre site, used for dumping bulk waste and plastics, has blocked the drainage in the adjacent area.
“I received complaints from residents a few days ago about illegal dumping that began on October 1. The landowner even lodged a police report after being threatened for prohibiting trucks from dumping waste.
“Today, I conducted a site inspection with the Royal Klang City Council (MBDK) and the police to witness the bulk and plastic waste dumped there.
“Various types of plastic waste were found, including some traced to a factory in Shah Alam. Immediate action is necessary, as this site is close to a river reserve that channels water from Taman Bayu Perdana, Bukit Tinggi, and Sentosa, which are flood-prone areas,” Leong said.
Speaking to the press after his visit, he expressed hope that the state government would amend any acts or by-laws to impose stricter penalties on offenders.
“At present, existing laws only target landowners, who are not at fault in cases like this.
“The state government needs to take stern action to curb illegal dumping, which disrupts residents and harms environmental sustainability,” Leong said.
Meanwhile, MBDK assistant enforcer Ibrahim Bizan said that upon receiving complaints, the authorities conducted monitoring and seized two lorries dumping waste at the site.
“On October 28, we issued seizures and fines to the lorry drivers for dumping waste in an unauthorised area.
“Additionally, MBDK will continue monitoring this location and may propose a temporary closure of the premises. We will also require those reclaiming vehicles to cover all costs, including the cleaning process,” he said.
