SHAH ALAM, Nov 5 — The state government, through the Selangor Aviation and Technology Innovations Sdn Bhd (Selati), last month inked a memorandum of understanding with Turkiye’s largest military systems developer, Havelsan.
State executive councillor for Islam and innovation Dr Fahmi Ngah said the deal, which involves the empowerment of the local drone industry, was signed during the Saha Expo Defence and Aerospace Exhibition in Turkiye.
“I believe the cooperation with Turkiye’s aerospace industry is important to our efforts in making Selangor a main aerospace hub.
“It is set to empower the state’s drone industry with the development of the Drone Centre of Excellence in Bestari Jaya, Kuala Selangor,” he said in a Facebook post.
Saha Expo, held from October 22 to 26, centred Turkiye’s defence industry products, as well as foreign companies in the fields on aviation, maritime, and space.
Fahmi said the Selangor delegation to the expo was shown various new technologies in weaponry, especially artificial intelligence-powered drone systems.
“Representing Selangor, this official visit aims to centre the state government’s new initiatives in the aerospace arena and create business opportunities for all,” he said.
In November 2021, University Selangor inked a memorandum of understanding with Selati to develop the Drone Centre of Excellence, bolstered by the institution’s facilities and strategic environment in driving the drone industry.
