Bursa Malaysia stays in positive territory at mid-morning

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — Bursa Malaysia stayed in positive territory at mid-morning, supported by buying activities in selected heavyweights, mainly in the utilities, industrial products and services sectors.

At 11 am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) rose 4.49 points to 1,606.57 compared with yesterday’s close of 1,602.08.

Tenaga Nasional added 18 sen to RM13.74, Sunway gained 11 sen to RM4.71, and Press Metal Aluminium went up 7.0 sen to RM5.02. These stocks pulled the composite index up by a combined 3.93 points. 

The benchmark index opened 1.78 points higher at 1,603.86. 

However, market breadth was negative with losers beating gainers 424 to 378, while 445 counters were unchanged, 1,254 untraded, and 44 suspended.

Turnover stood at 1.14 billion units worth RM659.22 million. 

As for the other heavyweights, MISC perked up 8.0 sen to RM7.48, while YTL Corporation and YTL Power International edged up 3.0 sen each to RM2.16 and RM3.70, respectively. Petronas Chemicals and SD Guthrie eased 4.0 sen to RM4.94 and RM4.96, respectively.  

Of the actives, Green Ocean inched up half-a-sen to 17.5 sen, JF Technology put on 8.0 sen to 78.5 sen, while Datasonic, Kinergy Advancement and MYEG were flat at 43 sen, 34.5 sen and 94.5 sen, respectively. 

On the index boards, the FBM Emas Index expanded 33.47 points to 12,320.02, the FBMT 100 Index strengthened 35.70 points to 12,003.74, the FBM Emas Shariah Index picked up 49.06 points to 12,316.70, the FBM 70 Index widened 62.75 points to 18,457.80, but the FBM ACE Index went down 25.92 points to 5,282.91.

Sector-wise, the Industrial Products and Services Index firmed by 0.59 of-a-point to 175.28, the Financial Services Index strengthened by 11.12 points to 19,113.24, the Energy Index shrank by 3.33 points to 820.82, and the Plantation Index reduced by 16.43 points to 7,637.87.
