Ex-remisier accused of scamming former minister’s son over golf company stock purchase

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 13 — A former remisier pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to the charge of defrauding the son of former Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin in the purchase of a golf equipment supply company shares last year.

Ali Imran Mohamad, 26, who was an employee of CGS International Securities Malaysia Sdn Bhd at the time, was charged with defrauding Raja Hamzah Abidin Raja Nong Chik, 36, by deceiving the victim into believing that the accused could manage all MST Golf Group Berhad stock purchase amounting to 1,000,000 units with a selling price of RM900,000, when the accused did not made any purchase of the shares.

The deception prompted the victim (Raja Hamzah) to hand over money (RM900,000) to the accused which he received through a bank account in the name of ‘MZ Riqueza Resources’ belonging to the mother-in-law of the accused, of which the accused had used RM655,440 for personal interests and only returned RM244,560 to the victim.

The act was allegedly committed at Dataran Maybank along Jalan Maarof in Bangsar on July 18, 2023, in accordance with Section 420 of the Penal Code (for cheating), which provides for a minimum of one year and a maximum of 10 years in prison and caning and can be fined, if convicted.

Earlier, deputy public prosecutor M. Saravanan proposed bail of RM70,000 with one surety while lawyer J. Joel Ruben, who represented Ali, asked for the bail to be reduced on the grounds that his client was not working and supporting his family and his wife was pregnant with their second child.

Judge Hamidah Mohamed Deril allowed the accused to be bailed at RM10,000 with one surety, and fixed February 6 for the mention of the case.
