Modern development mustn’t leave tradition behind — MB

KUALA LANGAT, Dec 14 — The rapid growth Selangor enjoys must be coupled with the strengthening of cultural and traditional values, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He added that the state government always aims to dignify culture, especially in rural areas, to ensure Selangor remembers its customs.

“The entry of much investment has sparked what we call the industrialisation phenomenon, and southern Selangor is among areas undergoing rapid development.

“States and countries making great progress do not develop merely due to economic and investment growth, but also because of their strong cultural aspects, called ‘soft power’,” he said.

Earlier, he officiated the Selangor Traditional Village Festival at Pantai Morib Square here today, also attended by state executive councillor for rural development and unity Datuk Rizam Ismail.

The inaugural festival was held to expose visitors to the rural way of life and showcase unique historical features of every traditional village.

Lasting four days, the event will centre various traditional arts, crafts, and food that make up Selangor’s unique village identity.
