Rehab for GISBH kids going well, over 100 still at shelter

By Sofia Nasir

SHAH ALAM, Dec 13 — Children saved from GISB Holdings Sdn Bhd (GISBH) premises are showing good progress, said Selangor Islamic Religious Council (Mais) chairman Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof.

He said the state administration’s special module for akidah and social rehabilitation is ongoing for the children.

He added that over 100 kids are still at the shelter, most of whom lack identity documents and have not been claimed by parents or guardians.

“We are still implementing the special module. They are showing clear progress and now know how to pray and read the Quran. Before this, they had not received exposure (to religion) as they were taught different things,” Aziz said.

He was met after flagging off a flood aid mission convoy to Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah at the Sultan Idris Shah Building here today.

Since October 1, Mais has implemented a rehabilitation programme, which was developed with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department and Selangor State Tahfiz Al-Quran Institutions Association, for children rescued from GISBH.

The move came after the state government set up a task force, comprising Islamic religious and social welfare agencies to help the children.

Since Op Global kicked off in early September, 415 people including GISBH top managers have been arrested, while 625 victims aged two months to 28 years have been rescued.
