SUBANG JAYA, Dec 10 — Selangor is focusing on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles to strike a balance between rapid growth and sustainability, said Jamaliah Jamaluddin.
The state executive councillor for public health and environment said Selangor has incorporated ESG principles into all development initiatives as part of its commitment to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable progress.
“Selangor is committed to leading sustainable development efforts, with a focus on ensuring a clean and resilient environment for the well-being of future generations.
“To achieve this goal, it requires ongoing efforts to reduce Selangor’s carbon footprint, secure a stable water water supply, and adopt sustainable waste management practices,” she said in her opening remarks at the Sustainability Leadership Forum at Dorsett Grand Subang here today.
Jamaliah said that Selangor, in support of the 12th Malaysia Plan, has set a target to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 35 per cent by 2025, as outlined in First Selangor Plan.
She said other efforts include ensuring 24-hour clean water supply and achieving a 15 per cent waste recycling rate.
“In Selangor’s dynamic landscape, MBI Selangor [Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated)] plays an important role in driving transformative economic development in the state.
“By focusing on strategic planning, investment facilitation, and sustainability, MBI Selangor aims to position the state as a rapidly growing economic hub,” she said, adding that this aligns with the state government’s vision of becoming a catalyst for sustainability and its mission to attract investments, create job opportunities, and improve quality of life.
Jamaliah said MBI has also played a key role in the establishment of the Selangor Climate Change Adaptation Centre.
She added that the new centre would be instrumental in developing climate change adaptation and mitigation measures while spearheading green initiatives statewide.
