Selangor waste manager freezes cleaning staff leave to prepare for flood

By Norrasyidah Arshad

SHAH ALAM, Dec 3 — The leave of all cleaning staff at KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd (KDEBWM) has been frozen in anticipation of the high tide phenomenon this weekend, which may lead to flooding.

This is according to its managing director Datuk Ramli Mohd Tahir, who said the state waste management agency will also provide 600 roll-on roll-off (roro) bins to assist with the transportation of bulk waste in flood-affected areas statewide.

He said the post-flood assistance is meant to facilitate the disposal of damaged furniture for affected residents.

“All our assets are ready for use. Following last week’s flooding in several areas in Meru, we mobilised roro bins to the location to help residents dispose of damaged goods.

“Other essential equipment, such as our compactor lorries, are also in optimal condition to ensure cleaning efforts run efficiently,” he said when contacted.

“Meanwhile, we will ensure that maintenance work and waste collection across all areas are carried out as scheduled.”

Last week, heavy rainfall and high tide phenomena caused flooding in several areas of Klang, including Meru.

In response, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari urged residents in flood-prone areas to stay alert and follow evacuation orders, with high tides expected to occur again.
